Today's Update

Book Drive:
As of today, we have 588 books donated to our Books for Youth: Half a Million by Half Time book drive for Indiana Department of Child Services! It has only been five days and we're already over half way to our goal of 1,000! I'm certain we can surpass the goal as this point! Please continue to send your new or gently used books for children ages 0-17 to school! Thank you to all families that have already donated so many wonderful books!

Countdown Summaries:
Each child has received their copy of the novel "Countdown" as of today. All students have a one to two paragraph summary of their reading (at least four chapters per week) on their scheduled Book Club due date. This due date is the same as it has been since the beginning of the year. I'm anxious to hear each student's perception of the first four chapters! I also can't wait to read the next four chapters along with the kids!

Conferences with Mrs. Hill:
Please be sure to contact me as soon as possible regarding your child's parent/teacher conference if you have not already done so. I plan to send home your scheduled appointment with your child by Friday, October 15. I encourage 5th grade students to attend the conference with their parent(s). It's their responsibility to know our expectations and where their strengths and needs reside!

Math Assessemt:
We will have a math test next Friday, October 15. I will send home a study guide and test alert on Monday. Each child will be encouraged to bring the Student Resource Book and Math Journal home each night to practice their math skills for the Unit 3 assessment.
