To coincide with our weekly Book Club reading minutes and summaries already established, students are encouraged to join our 5th grade reading contest. The "Kickoff to a Great Year" reading contest begins today, September 1. For every minute a child reads at home, he or she will write those minutes on his or her reading log (going home today). For every 10 minutes read, each student will move 10 yards on the football field on the reverse side of the log. Once the student makes it to the opposite end zone, he or she has scored a touchdown! Start over after every touchdown, but be sure to track the number of touchdowns received for the month. (These directions are on the reading log handout, too.)
Students that return their reading logs by the first day of the next month (October 1 for this month's contest) will receive a prize for participating. We will have monthly Super Bowl Champs, monthly MVPs, monthly Division Champs, monthly Second Division Champs, and monthly Last Division Champs!
